Blizzard made a bold statement against gold sellers and buyers today.
See : http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/faq/a ... lling.html

What's your opinion on this subject?
I doubt anyone would agree with gold buying / selling / exploiting the game for personal gain, but still some opinions may vary.
It's a topic that needs the support / acknowledgement from active (blogging) players.

Here's my response : http://rrvs.blogspot.com/2008/02/blizzard-vs-gold.html

This is a great idea for a Shared Topic. If bloggers get out there (again perhaps) and talk about this then perhaps at least Google and the other search engines will return stories / opinions that may sway a player from buying into these services.

I don't know if a common blog post title would help but ever the one to extract advantage from them I went for Buy Gold in World of Warcraft? - You don't need too.

For my part, I will check back Sunday night and add links to my post for every blog post listed here to strengthen the blogosphere reaction. Who knows? An interesting experiment getting on Google's first page at the very least.

Though not exactly on this particular release by Blizzard, I wrote a bit about Gold selling a few weeks back, when Blizzard won the lawsuit against Peons4Hire.

I'll probably do a follow up soon, considering blizzard's response covered a lot of the same kinds of things that the earlier news releases did.

A PvP MMo called "FURY" nipped the whole gold selling thing long before it got started by SELLING their own gold!

If you go to the main Fury website, you can actually buy the in-game currency directly.

This, I think, would be a far better Shared topic than Gold Selling in general.

Rather, "Would Blizzard selling gold themselves be, overall, a positive or negative effect on WoW?"

Obvious cons would be the implosion of the current economy.

Obvious pros would be the end of gold selling companies, since the only real way to compete would be with blizzard directly. Impossible to do, it'd be like trying to compete with the Royal Canadian Mint for coin production.

It would also see a marked decrease in keyloggers, too. Again, how can you compete with Blizzard if they are selling the gold themselves?

I don't think many people would enjoy a game where you can just flash your your credit card and be rich just like that.
There will be people who'd still play, people who can ignore the rich around them, but competing with other players would be quite difficult in a market such as that.

The question I'm interested in is "Have any of you ever purchased gold?" I believe the response will be an emphatic "NO!", but if you haven't do you know anyone who has? What was their experience with it like? Did it ruin the game for them? Would they do it again?

I have never bought gold and never will, though I'll admit the thought has crossed my mind in the past. I believe purchasing gold would ruin my experience of the game, much like using cheat codes does for most of my console games. Once I've done it, the experience is ruined and never quite the same again. The replay value at that point starts going downhill quickly. It's hard to go back to the non-cheat way of playing and using cheats removes the point of the game, the experience. Above that, I think it's a huge waste of money. I'm already paying Blizzard monthly to play the game, why spend more?
