Hey guys. Depending on what type of blog you have this may or may not be so successful. I created our blog as a branch of a family of websites to support the community of our guild. The blog is really an attempt to bring that community to interface with the larger wow world. Our websites include:
phpbb3 forums: http://www.raiders-art.com/forum
canver portal phpbb3 portal: http://www.raiders-art.com
and the blog http://www.raiders-art.com/progress

The tip is to get forums up and running as a resource for your guild to increase traffic over all of your sites, blog included. Over the past 10 days our forums have had over 20,000 page views, with the average time spent on the forums around 10minutes. What's really cool is that the blog and forum really provide opportunities for completely different types of information sharing. There's just a different flow to the blog post and commentary compared to a nest of forum offerings that often get sidetracked.

The tip is to get phpbb3 installed on your servers. Such a nice second piece of whatever wow communities you are trying to create.

While fora are great for specific purposes, I don't think most bloggers need them. I recently visited this topic on my own blog, and especially for the WoW community, I don't think fora are necessary outside of guild purposes in 99% of cases.

flora, fauna, and fora.

Our forums were created to hone a community outside of game-play. We used coordinating advancement in end-game content as the bait to get people on there, and now they are hooked. I think it depends on the content of your blog. For most bloggers, forums may not make sense.

But, I would say that they would make sense if you have a community minded guild. The blog isnt necessarily outside of guild purposes either. Creting cohesion between the different wow-content that we are providing, whether blogs, forums, irc channels, or whatever, can only increase interest along the social and traffic dimensions.

Agreed. And in saying so, that's why I'm here, associating with other bloggers. If your guild happens to be active members on your blog and in your forums, my hat's off to ya. But my guild neither knows nor wants to know about my blog. So the only reason to create one would be for other bloggers who happen to be the staple of my readership. Why do that when I can just come here?

The only bad question is one not asked. That's something my professors and teachers have always drilled into me. =)

I prefer to pluralize it Forii. Everything is cooler when pluralized with double 'i'.

I believe the saying that "there are no stupid questions. Just a lot of inquisitive idiots." :)
