When I first started blogging, I was unsure of how appealing the actual topic of just posting weird bits from around WoW would be, so I opted for a free blog with Wordpress.com.

Now that I've become stabilized and found that people actual enjoy reading my ramblings, I've sought to expand and found the free blog fairly restrictive in it's functionality. So namely, I've set on getting my own domain name and hosting.

The question I have actually more so involves my current readership, and any useful suggestions or tips for maintaining that readership through the transition to a new website. (In simpler terms, whats the best way to not loose people when switching sites)

First, you might wanna check the information on this post. I've never moved to self-hosted myself, so I hope this information helps.

Hopefully an actual mover will come along with more information OR that guide will be sufficient for you

When I switched I didn't have too many followers anyway BUT if you keep the same name and such, put up a big enough notice on your old site, then people should realise you've moved ^^

You may lose a few who will inevitably miss the message, but over time you'll get new followers and the old ones will probably find you

Honestly, just let them know really!

I was lucky that I got to start as self-hosted. I've seen other people who post when they switch domains & talk about their big move, inviting people to come to the new site. If you put up a couple posts over the course of your move, then the transition can be pretty seamless (or so I've heard)

The other trick is to make sure you're using Feedburner. That way, when you move over to a new location you can just update the feedburner settigns and your readers won't notice a thing.
