Discussion has been happening on Twitter in regards to an Noble Garden event along the lines of the secret admirer project and the Elder project - anyway this sparked an idea I had about creating an Easter Egg Hunt that branches across the game and blogging boundaries.

The premise behind it comes from the other meaning of Easter Egg. As reads from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_egg_(media):


In game there are a numerous pop culture references, for example Harris Pilton. The idea behind this event it to set up a scavenger hunt that is carried across different blogs that readers and bloggers alike can take part in - to find the pop culture references. I see this taking two forms:

1. Bloggers sign up to take part in the event . The bloggers will then post 3 posts that give clues to their pop culture reference - the first being the introduction, the second giving more clues and the third revealing the reference. We'll collate all the participants centrally and link to the blogs so people have to go to each blog to find the clues etc. Suggested days would be first post up Thursday/Friday, clue Saturday, reveal Sunday.

2. Readers will then take the time to deduce the pop culture reference and take a screen shot of the said reference with some sort of competition/reward??

I'd also suggest we could tie this into a Single Abstract Noun event - whereby we can all get together and run with our low level alts to all the difficult to find places to take the screen shots. The SAN event would then happen after the reveals - maybe Sunday nightish (timezones are a killer!!)? Or maybe just make it a come onto SAN and people will be around to take part in it etc?

So I'm up for people suggesting ideas about how to improve this, general interest - and if you think it'd work etc! Also I might need a little help running this as I'm away for part of the weekend!

I don't understand the posting about the reference. Unless you mean to have the bloggers one-by-one give the readers the list of things to find?

Sorry - that is a bit confusing. What I mean is that each blog(ger) will choose one pop culture reference as their topic and then write the clues for that one. So there'll be one clue over at WoW in an Hour, another at xyz blog, etc. So to follow through on the Haris Pilton example it could be something like this - I'm just giving one sentence clues here, but it would be worth drawing this out somewhat to make it into more of a post:

Post 1: My home was my jail for me and my bag bound dog.

Post 2: I am, therefore I am famous - thankfully my inheritance gives me many places to stay.

Post 3: I am Haris Pilton and I sell superfluous items for much much more than they are worth.

I'd recommend also posting about what you like about the said pop culture reference and why you chose it in the reveal post (which was my original idea that branched out into more of a participation event).

Ohhhh..so we are choosing a pop culture reference from IN-GAME and posting subtle hints at to which one it is whether it is Haris Pilton or the Dun Dun DUn dun ta quest line?

And the reader is to GUESS which reference IN GAME we are talking about?

Bingo! Yes that is the idea.

I'm wondering if it might be a bit much when combined with the noble garden stuff that is going on at the same time... I'd still think it would be a fun event to carry out as a Single Abstract Noun event tho - as we were discussing on Twitter - it would be fun trying to get all those level 1 alts to some of the places.

Thoughts?

Before even reading this post I have been doing posts about the pop culture of WoW. In fact, my second post will go up Monday, noonthirtyish EST. My first post, "I'm Going to Disneyland", is based on the Disney movie references. Thank you for posting about this because it means I am not the only one who thinks about it!

Just a note - I've just a post up about the event. it is running over on Argent Dawn (US) with some SAN folk - but in an oceanic time frame.

When: Monday 5th April 8.30 AM Server Time (That US EST) - or 8.30 PM GMT +8
Where: Argent Dawn US - starting in Ironforge - but I'm running with my lock so can summon people
Who: Whoever wants to come - just create/login an Alliance toon and find someone from Single Abstract Noun to throw you an invite - or look for Narcolious - my warlock.
